The Hermitage Hotel Nashville — A Wedding Venue Worth Knowing

Venues We Love

There are venues that look beautiful in photos, and then there are venues that feel like something the moment you walk in.

The Hermitage Hotel in downtown Nashville is the second kind.

Built in 1910, it was Nashville’s first million-dollar hotel and Tennessee’s first five-star property. More than a century later, it remains one of the most architecturally distinctive wedding venues in the city.

The Architecture Sets the Tone

The Hermitage was built in the Beaux Arts style — a blend of classical Italian and French Renaissance influences. For a wedding, that translates to something very practical: you’re not starting from a blank canvas.

The Grand Lobby features a painted glass skylight ceiling, Tennessee and Italian marble floors, and detailed plasterwork throughout. It already has depth, warmth, and visual interest before a single table is set.

That means your design choices — florals included — can be more intentional.

The Spaces, Mapped Out

One of the reasons The Hermitage works so well for weddings is how the spaces flow throughout the day.

The Grand Lobby

Often used for cocktail hour, the lobby holds up to 300 guests for a standing reception.

It doesn’t feel like a transition space — it feels like part of the experience. The skylight, marble, and scale make it memorable from the moment guests arrive.

The Grand Ballroom

Most receptions take place here.

With nearly 2,500 square feet, Russian walnut paneling, and an ornate ceiling, the room comfortably seats around 200 guests for dinner or up to 300 for a reception.

It’s formal without feeling rigid — which is a balance that’s harder to find than it sounds.

The Veranda

For smaller events or more intimate weddings, The Veranda offers a different atmosphere.

With views of 6th Avenue and a slightly more relaxed feel, it’s often used for rehearsal dinners, bridal luncheons, or weddings under 100 guests.

A Note on History

The Hermitage has hosted presidents, foreign dignitaries, and cultural figures for more than a century.

It also played a role in the ratification of the 19th Amendment — a detail that gives the space a kind of historical weight that can’t be replicated.

It’s part of Nashville’s story.

What Florals Look Like Here

The Hermitage is a space where florals don’t need to compete — they need to complement.

The marble and walnut tones naturally pull warm, which means palettes like ivory, champagne, deep burgundy, and forest green tend to feel especially cohesive.

In the Grand Ballroom, taller, sculptural centerpieces work well with the scale of the room.

In the lobby, arrangements that feel a bit more expansive — layered textures, trailing greenery, softer movement — tend to photograph beautifully under the skylight.

At Poppy, we approach spaces like this by letting the architecture lead. The goal isn’t to add more — it’s to design in a way that feels intentional within the room.

Is The Hermitage Hotel a Good Wedding Venue?

For couples considering a downtown Nashville wedding, The Hermitage stands out for a few reasons:

  • The architecture creates built-in visual impact
  • Multiple spaces allow for a natural event flow
  • It works for both large and more intimate weddings
  • The design requires less layering than many venues

If you’re looking for a space that already has character — and doesn’t require over-designing — it’s one of the strongest options in the city.

Start Thinking About Your Florals
