Prospect Park Boathouse: The Brooklyn venue that makes Manhattan jealous

Venues We Love

Here's the thing about the Boathouse: It's a 1905 Beaux-Arts building sitting on a literal lake in the middle of Brooklyn. Your guests will spend the first 20 minutes asking "Wait, we're still in New York?" That's before they see what we do with the flowers.

Why this place just works

Those floor-to-ceiling French doors aren't just for show. They open onto a terrace that overlooks Lullwater lake, which means your ceremony photos get actual water views without leaving the borough. The white façade does this thing around 6pm where it basically turns gold—your photographer will lose their mind.

The space fits 130-150 seated, which is that sweet spot where everyone you actually like can come, but you're not inviting your coworker's plus-one.

How we make the flowers work here

The venue's already doing heavy lifting with those lake views. Your flowers should feel like they belong—complementing the architecture while adding your personal touch. Here's what actually works:

Floral clouds (but make them smart)

We build these airy installations that frame you during the ceremony without blocking what people came to see—the water (and you, of course). Think local wildflowers, ornamental grasses, and blooms that move in the breeze. We either keep them ground-level or float them on clear acrylic stands so they look like they're hovering. Everyone gets a clear view of your vows with the lake as backdrop.

Reception moves that make sense

Bud vases are your friend here. We cluster them at different heights—some tall, some short, some with just one perfect stem. They catch light from those French doors without overwhelming the table. The result? Beautiful blooms that encourage conversation across the table.

Keep centerpieces low. Eye-level conversation > Instagram-worthy but impractical towers. We use vintage silver footed compotes because they look like they belong in a 1905 building (because they do).

Real weddings that nailed it

Carol + Katlyn went full romantic

September wedding, blush and cream everything. The palette basically melted into the Boathouse's bones in the best way. Not trying to fight the architecture, just enhancing what's already there.

Sami + Taylor brought the heat

Terracotta tones everywhere—think desert sunset meets Brooklyn lakeside. We built an asymmetrical installation by the French doors that played with the architecture instead of hiding it. Their tables had ceramic vessels, tapered candles, and arrangements that looked like they were on fire (in a good way) when the sun hit them.

Hannah + Harold kept it light

Lavender, pale blue, blush, cream—basically every pastel that doesn't make you think "baby shower." Spring flowers like tulips and sweet peas in bud vases, plus these meadow-style arrangements that looked like they wandered in from Prospect Park itself. The afternoon light through the doors made everything glow.

The real deal about the Boathouse

You get a building with actual history, water views without leaving Brooklyn, and space that photographs like a European estate. It's far enough into the park that city noise disappears, but your Uber driver can still find it.

The French doors mean weather becomes your friend—open them for breeze, close them for AC. Either way, those lake views aren't going anywhere.
