Poppy’s first micro-wedding couple.
Nicole and Alex, first met in 2012 through their mutual friend Oscar. But their real meet-cute happened in 2016 on Valentine’s Day, when their friend Oscar invited both of them to dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant. The rest, as Nicole says, is history.
The couple had originally planned a much bigger wedding for June and even postponed it to October. But realizing the pandemic may still be an issue, they ultimately decided to get married on their original date, June 6, 2020, with close family and friends in front of Alex’s parents’ house in Arlington, Virginia.
Using inspiration from Elaine Welteroth’s microwedding, Nicole brought her fabulous micro-wedding to life. It was an event to remember — a good friend officiated the wedding, Nicole’s dad toasted them through Zoom, and guests blocked the street for their first dance. Their first dance song cut in and out due a weak bluetooth connection, so the guests sang the words to the song — Only You by the Platters — to keep the dance going.
For her bouquet, Nicole envisioned an organic, bohemian style bouquet, reflecting the ease and casualness of their outdoor soiree. Our founder, Cameron, designed it herself — using peachy garden roses, yellow ranunculus, blush anemones, light pink solomio and yellow craspedia. To finish off this gorgeous summer-y bouquet, she foraged for the perfect style of greenery.
