Halley Kate's Wedding: Vintage Dior, Four Dogs, and a Hamptons Backyard

Before there was a venue, a guest list, or even an engagement, there was a dress. Halley Kate found it thrifting — a vintage Dior gown, the kind of piece most people would admire from a distance.
"I randomly found a vintage Dior wedding dress one day that I was obsessed with. I wasn't even engaged at the time, but the dress was so me, and I kind of used that as inspiration for the rest of my planning."
That was her approach: find the thing that's undeniably you, and build from there. It's a simple idea, but it's the opposite of how a lot of wedding planning actually happens — most brides start with a Pinterest board of what's trending and try to make it feel personal after the fact. Halley Kate did it backwards, and it's exactly why the day felt so Halley Kate Core.
If you follow her, this won't surprise you. Her whole aesthetic has always been less about following a look and more about having one — a specific taste that shows up whether she's getting dressed, styling a room, or planning a wedding. So when it came time to actually plan the day, she didn't reach for "wedding inspiration." She reached for what she already loved.

Even the proposal had that same unplanned quality. She'd been traveling, then flew to Zürich to meet Reed for a weekend away.
"On our first day in Zürich, we walked out to this garden in our hotel where Reed proposed and I was completely surprised! It was just the two of us and our flight back to New York on Sunday actually ended up getting cancelled so we got to extend our trip a few days."
Home Over Ballroom
For the celebration itself, Halley Kate and Reed skipped the traditional venue entirely and chose the backyard of their own Hamptons house. It's a decision that says a lot about what this generation of brides actually wants: not a bigger venue, but a more personal one. A space that feels like theirs, a space that just needs the right details for the vision to work.
That choice also set the tone for the whole design. A backyard celebration in the Hamptons in July has its own identity, and Halley knew exactly what she wanted to lean into.
"Hydrangeas are a really popular flower in The Hamptons during the summer so I really wanted to make sure that hydrangeas were included in some way."
That's the kind of detail worth paying attention to if you're planning your own day: not "what flowers are trending right now," but "what already belongs in this place, at this time of year." Poppy took that one instinct and let it define the whole look — a soft, quiet palette of white and blush that felt seasonal and specific. The garden shed that became the bar, the arch that framed the entrance, the low, gathered arrangements at the tables — all of it stayed in that same, unfussy design. Elevated, but never trying too hard. Exactly the vibe Halley Kate is known for.
The One Detail Nobody Else Would Have Thought Of
What makes a day memorable is usually one or two details that can’t belong to anyone else. For Halley Kate, that detail was her dogs.
"I love my dogs and I had a dream about having them as my wedding bouquet, and Poppy Flowers truly made my dreams a reality by creating floral leashes for my dogs."
Four dogs, four custom floral leashes, all tied back to her bouquet. That's the real takeaway for anyone planning a wedding on their own version of this budget and timeline: you don't need ten unique details. You need the one that's actually true, executed well, and everything else can stay simple.

That's also just how she approached the whole day.
"I was making decisions based on things I just simply liked. Rather than following what was trending, I went with dresses, flowers, and decorations that were true to me."
The Touch Almost Nobody Else Would Notice
Ask Halley Kate what part of the day deserves more credit, and she doesn't point to the arch or the bouquet — she points to the tables.
"I think one part of my florals that is overlooked is how amazing the table arrangements turned out. Table arrangements was a smaller detail that made such a huge difference in the overall feel and atmosphere of the party."
It's a good reminder that the parts of a wedding that get the most attention beforehand — the entrance, the bouquet, the big "wow" moment — aren't always the parts guests remember most. Sometimes it's the thing sitting quietly on the table in front of them for three hours. Poppy kept those arrangements low, soft, and textural on purpose, lasting all night rather than just existing for a photo moment.
What "Halley Kate Core" Actually Means
Strip away the dress and the dogs and the backyard, and the real formula underneath this wedding is pretty simple: know what you like, don't apologize for it, and don't let anyone talk you into a trend that isn't actually you.
Her advice to other couples is the same thing she practiced herself.
"Just to have fun with it! Make sure you focus on what you truly want rather than what you feel like you should do."
