Sahra

Designer, Poppy

Sahra owned Heartwood, a flower shop in Tahoe City, California, and has led large floral installations for museums and events.

Sahra took over a Tahoe City flower shop in 2012 with no arranging experience. She learned on the job and in design workshops, renamed the shop Heartwood, and grew it into a studio that took on installations well beyond the shop floor.

In 2021 she was one of seven leads on floral artist Beth O’Reilly’s “Botanical Graffiti” installation in the rotunda of the San Diego Museum of Art for Art Alive, the museum’s annual floral exhibition. She was in charge of the suspended pieces. Before that, she built a three-story installation in New Orleans.

She has taught floral design workshops of her own and believes in collaboration over competition. She calls herself a problem-solver first and a designer second.
